An Encounter at Hyde Park by Claudia Dain, Deb Marlowe, Ava Stone and Karen Hawkins

4 Stories - 4 Reviews - Overall Book Rating ★★★★

Chasing Miss Montford by Claudia Dain:

I didn't get far into this book as it was too confusing with all the E names and I found it kinda convoluted. A lot of talking about what could happen and should happen and nothing actually happening. Haven't read this author before.. probably wouldn't try her again unless I found a really good recommendation.

★★★ 3.5 stars
A Waltz In Hyde Park by Deb Marlowe:

I Enjoyed it. Characters were fun. James and Addy were a good match. This was my first time reading this author. Might look up more of her stuff.

★★★★★ Promises Made by Ava Stone:

This story brought emotion with it. I felt the passion, I felt the chemistry, I was invested in these characters. This was the first time I have read this author. I will look for more of her books!

★★★★★ Charlotte's Bed by Karen Hawkins:

This Author was the reason I bought this book. I have enjoyed a lot of Hawkins' books. This one was no different! I thought it was intriguing that both characters were in there 40's. Not often do you find that in this genre. I remember reading about Charlotte before in another story, as she is a companion to The Duchess of Roxburghe (and all her many pugs).  I was happy to see that Angus came to terms with his wrongs and tried to right them. I am hoping that MacDermott gets a story!!

So all in all this was a good purchase. And I may have found some new great authors!!!

Here's the Blurb:

In Claudia' Dain's Chasing Miss Montford, Miss Elaine Montford is a debutante on the hunt for a titled husband. Then again, who isn't? In the London Season of 1804, every young woman with a mama who has spent the money to buy an appropriate wardrobe and find a house in Town to showcase her virginal, blushing daughter expects said daughter to do her duty to her family name by marrying a man with a title, and social connections, and a well-established estate. Elaine Montford, who is virginal and can blush nearly upon command, is not averse to this plan. It's only that she has yet to meet the man who meets her mama's qualifications. * Roger Ellery of the 10th Regiment of Light Dragoons is not that man. However, Roger Ellery is the man she meets. In Hyde Park. It is quite clear that he believes he is rescuing her, even if she is not in need of rescuing. Then again, perhaps she is....And it all started out so innocently, too.

In Deb Marlowe's A Waltz in the Park, James Vickers once believed honor and family duty to be his life's work. Now he knows better--and he's appointed himself as silent witness to his father's sins. His greatest goal is to act as the continuously pricking thorn in his lordship's side--and scandal is his greatest weapon. He has no use for an innocent young miss. * Propriety is Miss Adelaide Stockton's most important asset. She must be all that is prim and proper if she's to live down her parent's misdeeds and have any hope of catching a husband. She must avoid scoundrels like Vickers at all costs. Yet fate has thrown them together--and given each a key to the other's ambition. A bargain is struck...but together they find that gaining what one desires most is far more difficult than a waltz in the park.

In Ava Stone's Promises Made, Lady Elspeth MacLaren loves everything about London - the ballrooms, the entertainments, the handsome single lords in want of a wife. Unfortunately, she already has a betrothed...She just doesn't know it yet. * A decade ago, Captain Griffin Reid made a deal with the devil. In exchange for leaving Scotland and joining the Dragoon Guards, his family's land and legacy will be returned to him after he marries one-time neighbor Ellie MacLaren. Unfortunately, the lady in question has her heart set on marrying some English lord and living out her days somewhere south of the border. And before Griff knows what's happened, he finds himself trying to win the heart of the lady who always should have been his.

In Karen Hawkins' Charlotte's Bed - Uninterested in domestic bliss, Lady Charlotte treasures her freedom as a wealthy, unmarried lady living with her best friend, the spritely Duchess of Roxburghe, and assisting in that lady's energetic matchmaking endeavors. But now - shockingly - the duchess has turned her sharp ambitions on none other than Lady Charlotte herself. Charlotte's having none of it. She likes her life and her freedom, but when an old love from her past reappears, the mysterious and dark Angus Reeves, Lord MacThune, and attempts to woo her with an exciting, thrilling kiss, Charlotte begins to wonder if perhaps - just perhaps - 'domestic bliss' might mean something other than what she originally thought . . .

Wild Need by Donna Grant

★★★★ This is the third book in the Chiasson series. Beau and Davena are a great match! This story was a nice fast pace and was over a bit to quickly for me. But it is a novella so it was expected. I am looking forward to meeting Riley (their sister) and can't wait for Christian to have his own book!

Here's the Blurb:

In this third thrilling story in the Chiasson series, New York Times bestselling author Donna Grant delivers a fiery tale about a man who embraces his heritage and a woman trying to escape evil.

STALKED BY DEATH…

Davena Arcineaux would like nothing more than to put her past of tragedy and magic behind her and stop running. Maybe even find a great guy to share her life with and start a family. But an evil Voodoo priestess who will stop at nothing to get her hands on Davena has tracked her to Lyons Point. And time has run out for Davena.

FIGHTING FOR SURVIVAL…

Brave, protective, Beau Chiasson was prepared to live his life alone, but when fate puts the lovely Davena in his path, he realizes that there has been a part of him missing that only she can complete. Engaged in the biggest fight of his life, Beau must not only save the parish from evil, but also win Davena’s heart – if he can keep them both alive.

★★★★ That was a nice quick read! Just what I was looking for. This is the second book in the Chiasson family. I enjoy this series and I am looking forward to the next ones!

Here's the Blurb:

ANOTHER CURSED...

Gorgeous, loyal Lincoln Chiasson always has his brothers' backs, and when his cousin from New Orleans needs his help after being cursed by a Voodoo priestess, he's among the first to offer assistance. Until he sets eyes on Ava. After that, protecting her becomes more important than anything. Or anyone. But can he win her trust - and her love - while keeping her safe from his family?

Someone To Watch Over Me by Lisa Kleypas

★★★★ This is the first in the "Bow Street Runners" series. I enjoyed this book. At times couldn't put it down!  I was happy my predictions came true. I liked how Grant battled with himself every now and then not wanting to fall for Vivien, and I liked how Vivien trusted Grant right from the beginning.  I am looking forward to the other books in the series.

Here's the Blurb:

Grant Morgan is one of London's most eligible and unattainable bachelors. He's also a powerful member of the Bow Street Runners, and when he's called to the waterfront late one night to investigate a drowning victim, Grant is stunned to recognize the face of Vivien Rose Duvall, a well-known woman of the night. He's even more startled when he realizes that she's alive. With no one to care for her, Grant carries Vivien to his home and revives her, only to learn that she is suffering from amnesia.

Vivien hesitantly accepts her handsome rescuer's claim that she is his mistress, despite her misgivings about her true identity. Nevertheless, she can't deny the marks on her throat that prove her near-drowning in the Thames was not an accident, and now she must trust the man who claims her as his paramour, for her life is in danger. As Grant searches for Vivien's attacker, the two find themselves falling in love, all the while struggling to stay one step ahead of the evil forces that will stop at nothing to see Vivien dead.

Shadow Magic by Donna Grant

★★ Let me start by saying Donna Grant is one of my favourite authors and this book started out interesting. I was enjoying the characters, but by half way I was losing interest in the plot. The amount of times the phrases "the darkness" and "the great evil" had been mentioned, was getting ridiculous, and the characters didn't seem as developed as I normally expect from Donna Grant. With all of the series I have read of hers, I have always found the first book to be not as good as the rest,(and by that I mean the rest are wonderful and the first was good.) Mostly because she's building up all her characters. I always want to read the other books in the series. Sadly, for me, this one fell short of even those expectations. I have the whole box set so I may try out the others in the series one day.

Here's the blurb:

With a past soaked in sin and darkness slowly closing in around him to claim his soul, Drogan only wants to live his life in solitude. Years in the king's service and his numerous deeds directed by the crown have left Drogan with horrendous nightmares and immeasurable guilt?

Serena is a witch, cursed and forever alone. She accepts her future. Until she meets Drogan. With Drogan a passion deep and unyielding awakens inside her. She is willing to sacrifice herself for his love, but can he put his past to rest and embrace the future?
