Duncan's Bride by Linda Howard (Audio Edition)

Narrated by Lesa Lockford
Series: Patterson-Cannon Family #1

♥ ♥ ♥  I bumped this book up to 3 stars, due to the writing and narration as these were both well done. However, I just could not abide the hero. He was such a jealous stubborn jerk! The way he treated Maddie, and the things he said to her were terrible and uncalled for. Maybe I am jaded, but I don’t see this kind of person changing their ways, and I would not enjoy being in this kind of relationship, so I can’t understand why the heroine would want to.

Personally I think a man can still be “Alpha” and be able to treat people with respect. To give Maddie some credit, she didn’t take Reece’s crap.. Which was good. She stood her ground and made choices for herself. I did think she fell in love a bit too fast.. But hey.. ya never know right?

If you are looking for a story, where the hero has trouble getting over his past, and realizing his future… this may be a great story for you.

Lesa Lockford did a great job with her narration. She had a very calm relaxing attitude for Maddie's character which I thought fit well and her gruff, no nonsense voice worked perfectly for Reece.

The blurb:

Reese Duncan wanted a wife, pure and simple. Someone to have children with, someone to help him rebuild his ranch, someone uncomplicated...and someone very different from his first wife, the woman who'd destroyed his life. But he hadn't bargained on Madelyn Patterson. She was sophisticated and citified, and she was willing to herd cattle, keep house and start a family with Reese. The only thing she asked for in return was love - the one thing Reese refused to guarantee.

The Season by Sarah MacLean

♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ½ I thought this book was well written. I loved the relationship between Gavin and Alex. They had great chemistry, witty dialogue, and they had that "friends to lovers/boy next door" sort of plot I like.

As I am reading this with a young adult, I tried to look at this story from her point of view. She has never read a historical romance before and I thought there was just enough informative details - what types of clothes/layers of clothes they wore, the order of titles etc.- thrown in that I think it would be a wonderful introduction to this genre for her. Also, as this author usually writes more adult types of books.. this story is age appropriate.. nothing steamy, but all the good butterflies!

Lastly, I really enjoyed the secondary characters! Is it just me or does anyone else wish Vivi and Will would get together??   Now, I wonder if they have their own stories! … Perhaps they do?? I must check into this! I am very glad I read this book.

The Blurb:

Seventeen year old Lady Alexandra is strong-willed and sharp-tongued; in a house full of older brothers and their friends, she had to learn to hold her own. Not the best makings for an aristocratic lady in Regency London. Yet her mother still dreams of marrying Alex off to someone safe, respectable, and wealthy. But between ball gown fittings, dances, and dinner parties, Alex, along with her two best friends, Ella and Vivi, manages to get herself into what may be her biggest scrape yet.
When the Earl of Blackmoor is mysteriously killed, Alex decides to help his son, the brooding and devilishly handsome Gavin, uncover the truth. But will Alex's heart be stolen in the process? In an adventure brimming with espionage, murder, and other clandestine affairs, who could possibly have time to worry about finding a husband? Romance abounds as this year's season begins!

Somewhere I'll Find You by Lisa Kleypas (Audio Edition)

Narrated by Rosalyn Landor

♥ ♥ ♥ This book was ok. It was not very intriguing and I found I got bored of the hero just trailing after her because he wanted sex (or so it seemed to me.) He kept using the line “we both enjoyed it”…She on the other hand, just kept pushing him away and while sometimes that plot works, here I found it didn't. The writing was decent, not the best Kleypas I have read - normally I love her books! I will say though, when the characters were actually on good terms and discovering their relationship together, it was good reading. I wish there had been more of that.

This book took me a very long time to make my way through. The narrator did a wonderful job, which definitely helped me finish it.

The Blurb:

The toast of the town...

All London is at Julia Wentworth’s feet — and anything she desires is hers for the asking. But the glamorous leading lady guards a shocking secret: a mystery husband whom she does not know, dares not mention...and cannot love.

For years Damon Savage has been searching for the
stranger his parents wed him to without his consent, hoping to legally free himself from matrimony’s invisible chains.

And he is astonished to discover his “bride” is none other than the exquisite lady he’d hoped to make his mistress! But though his wife by law, Julia will never truly be Damon’s — until he conquers her fears, his formidable rivals...and her proud, passionate, and independent heart

Lady Bridget's Diary by Maya Rodale (Audio Edition)

Narrated by Saskia Maarleveld

♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ This book is very much a Bridget Jones meets Pride and Prejudice. It really is the best way I can describe it. The storyline is always a good one and I liked the slight changes in the details.

The narrator was new to me and she read well, I would listen to her again.

The Blurb:

In the first novel of Maya Rodale's stunning new series, an American heiress must learn to navigate London society and an infuriatingly irresistible rake . . .

Lord Darcy is the quintessential Englishman: wealthy, titled, impossibly proper, and horrified that a pack of Americans has inherited one of England's most respected dukedoms. But his manners, his infamous self-restraint, and his better judgment fly out the window when he finds himself with the maddening American girl next door.

Lady Bridget Cavendish has grand—but thwarted—plans to become a Perfect Lady and take the haute ton by storm. In her diary, Bridget records her disastrous attempts to assimilate into London high society, her adoration of the handsome rogue next door, her disdain for the Dreadful Lord Darcy, and some truly scandalous secrets that could ruin them all.

It was loathing at first sight for Lady Bridget and Lord Darcy. But their paths keep crossing . . . and somehow involve kissing. When Lady Bridget's diary goes missing, both Darcy and Bridget must decide what matters most of all—a sterling reputation or a perfectly imperfect love.

By Your Side by Kasie West

♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ Wow!! I totally LOVED this book. It starts off by being trapped in a library!!! It had me hooked from right then!

I have only read one other young adult book, and so I admit, I wasn't sure what to expect...but wow.. it was great! The flirty tension, fun dialogue, and wonderful lead characters just kept me longing to read. I did not want to put the book down! I am very glad my friend recommended this book to me.  Well worth the read!!!

The Blurb:

In this irresistible story, Kasie West explores the timeless question of what to do when you fall for the person you least expect. Witty and romantic, this paperback original from a fan favorite is perfect for fans of Stephanie Perkins and Morgan Matson.

When Autumn Collins finds herself accidentally locked in the library for an entire weekend, she doesn’t think things could get any worse. But that’s before she realizes that Dax Miller is locked in with her. Autumn doesn’t know much about Dax except that he’s trouble. Between the rumors about the fight he was in (and that brief stint in juvie that followed it) and his reputation as a loner, he’s not exactly the ideal person to be stuck with. Still, she just keeps reminding herself that it is only a matter of time before Jeff, her almost-boyfriend, realizes he left her in the library and comes to rescue her.

Only he doesn’t come. No one does.

Instead it becomes clear that Autumn is going to have to spend the next couple of days living off vending-machine food and making conversation with a boy who clearly wants nothing to do with her. Except there is more to Dax than meets the eye. As he and Autumn first grudgingly, and then not so grudgingly, open up to each other, Autumn is struck by their surprising connection. But can their feelings for each other survive once the weekend is over and Autumn’s old life, and old love interest, threaten to pull her from Dax’s side?

Four Weddings and a Sixpence: An Anthology (Audio Edition)

By Julia Quinn, Elizabeth Boyle, Laura Lee Gurke, and Stefanie Sloane

Narrated by Mary Jane Wells

♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ This was a wonderful anthology. I loved the idea of the sixpence bringing love to the person who held it, and definitely not always the love you think it to be.

These four authors are fantastic. Each story was well written and they blended together easily. I find sometimes the novellas seem rushed or lacking, but none of these felt that way. They were all full stories with engaging characters.

The Narration was TOP NOTCH! Mary Jane Wells as always, does a superb job!!

The Blurb:

Beloved authors Julia Quinn, Elizabeth Boyle, Laura Lee Guhrke, and Stefanie Sloane deliver the stories of four friends from Madame Rochambeaux’s Gentle School for Girls who find an old sixpence in their bedchamber and decide that it will be the lucky coin for each of their weddings…

“Something Old”
Julia Quinn’s prologue introduces her heroine Beatrice Heywood and the premise for Four Weddings and a Sixpence.

“Something New”
In Stefanie Sloane’s unforgettable story, an ever-vigilant guardian decrees that Anne Brabourne must marry by her twenty-first birthday. But love finds her in the most unexpected of ways.

“Something Borrowed”
Elizabeth Boyle tells the tale of Cordelia Padley, who has invented a betrothed to keep her family from pestering her to wed. Now she’ll need to borrow one to convince them she’s found her true love.

“Something Blue”
In Laura Lee Guhrke’s story, unlucky Lady Elinor Daventry has her sixpence stolen from her and must convince the rake who pilfered the coin to return it in time for her own wedding.

“... and a Sixpence in Her Shoe”
Julia Quinn finishes with the story of Beatrice Heywood, who never believed that the sixpence was anything but a tarnished old coin—until it led all of her friends to true love. But her faith in the coin is tested when it keeps sending her to the wrong man!

Last Night With the Duke by Amelia Grey

Series: The Rakes of St. James #1

♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ Right from the beginning I fell in love with Ms.Grey’s writing style! Her characters are full, the story is engaging and the dialogue is wonderful.

Griffin and Esmeralda were fantastic together. From the first moment they are on the page together you could feel the chemistry begin to simmer. I am intrigued by the secondary characters and look forward to their stories.

I am very glad I took a chance and requested this arc from Netgalley and I am super excited to check out this author's back list!

The Blurb:

Could finding love be his greatest scandal of all?

The Duke of Griffin has never lived down his reputation as one of the Rakes of St. James. Now rumors are swirling that his twin sisters may bear the brunt of his past follies. Hiring a competent chaperone is the only thing Griffin has on his mind--until he meets the lovely and intriguing Miss Esmeralda Swift. In ways he could never have expected, she arouses more than just his curiosity.

Esmeralda Swift considered herself too sensible to ever fall for a scoundrel, but that was before she met the irresistibly seductive Duke of Griffin. His employment offer proves too tempting for her to resist. She can’t afford to be distracted by his devilish charms because the stakes are so high for his sisters’ debut Season. . .unless one of London’s most notorious rakes has had a change of heart and is ready to make Esmeralda his bride?

Neanderthal Seeks Human by Penny Reid (Audio Edition)

Narrated by Jennifer Grace

♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ I love the nerdy girl character. Loved all the random trivia she would blurt out, and I love it when the characters love each other because of their quirks! Quinn was a mystery.. though at points he was starting to seem a bit overprotective. I found this book funny and charming.. The characters chemistry is great, though I wish I could have seen more from Quinn’s point of view- just because that is a favourite of mine.. Seeing what the hero is thinking. This is the 3rd book I have read by Penny Reid and I am quite enjoying her style of writing.

The Blurb:

This is a full-length, 110k word novel and is the first book in the Knitting in the City series.

There are three things you need to know about Janie Morris: 1) She is incapable of engaging in a conversation without volunteering TMTI (Too Much Trivial Information), especially when she is unnerved, 2) No one unnerves her more than Quinn Sullivan, and 3) She doesn't know how to knit.

After losing her boyfriend, apartment, and job in the same day, Janie Morris can't help wondering what new torment fate has in store. To her utter mortification, Quinn Sullivan- aka Sir McHotpants- witnesses it all then keeps turning up like a pair of shoes you lust after but can't afford. The last thing she expects is for Quinn- the focus of her slightly, albeit harmless, stalkerish tendencies- to make her an offer she can't refuse.

The Highlander Takes a Bride by Lynsay Sands (Audio Edition)

Narrated by Penelope Nederhorst
Series: Highlander #3

♥ ♥ ♥ ½ I quite enjoyed the chemistry and banter between Saidh and Greer. Saidh was a tomboy type woman, and how could she not be with 7 brothers! I loved her character, and Ioved how Greer found her qualities attractive instead of trying to change her. This would have been a 4 star book.. however, after the romance part seemed secure.. there was a murder plot that just seemed to get a bit convoluted and I started to lose interest.

The Blurb:

A bold, seductive laird meets his passionate match in a scintillating Highland romance from New York Times best-selling author Lynsay Sands

Sword fighting, swearing, and riding astride come naturally to Saidh Buchanan. Simpering and holding her tongue - definitely not. Raised alongside seven boisterous brothers, Saidh has little interest in saddling herself with a husband...until she glimpses the new Laird MacDonnell bathing naked in the loch. Though she's far from a proper lady, the brawny Highlander makes Saidh feel every inch a woman.

She has an angel's looks, a warrior's temper, and seeks out his kisses with wanton eagerness. Little wonder that Greer is intrigued by his comely guest. When reckless desire overtakes them, he's more than willing to make an honest woman of her. But Saidh is the target of a hidden enemy, and Greer faces the battle of his life to safeguard the woman he wants above all others.

To Marry a Scottish Laird by Lynsay Sands (Audio Edition)

Narrated by Keiran Elliott
Series: Highlanders #2

♥ ♥  I don’t like giving negative reviews, but sadly this book was a disappointment. Not much happens. The plot had loads of potential and I wish the story had progressed farther before he found out the lad was a lass… Feels like there are some missed opportunities for funny situations.  Joan seems constantly reluctant and unsure of her worth even when Cam has reassured her.  By three quarters of the way through it started to feel like the author was just filling space… she would say the same thing in 5 different ways.

The narrator has a nice voice, however, I don't find him too engaged in the story. He has a different pace to his reading, which by the end almost seemed like he was somewhat bored with the story. So, honestly that probably took away from the story for me as well. As I see many good reviews for this book.. Perhaps skip the audio version and try the book/ebook version instead.

With that said, I am still looking forward to the next in the series, the narrator is a good one and the the plot seems promising!

The Blurb:

New York Times bestselling author Lynsay Sands returns to the Highlands of Scotland in her hottest new historical romance yet!

Highlander Campbell Sinclair is no stranger to battle, so when he sees a lad attacked by bandits, he jumps into the fray. He didn't count on being stabbed. Grateful to the boy for nursing him back to health, Cam offers to accompany Jo safely to his destination. But when he accidentally comes across the lad bathing in the river, Cam discovers that Jo is actually Joan...with the most sinful of curves.

Joan promised her mother that she would deliver a scroll to the clan MacKay. But traveling alone is dangerous, even disguised as a boy. When a Scottish warrior lends his aid, she is more than relieved...until he surprises her with lingering kisses and caresses that prove her disguise hasn't fooled him. As their passion ignites, will the secrets of the scroll force a wedding...and lead to a love she's never known?

So Right by Darcy Burke

Series: Ribbon Ridge: Love on the Vine #2

♥ ♥ ♥ This was my first book by Darcy Burke. It had some good chemistry between Luke and Kelsey. I enjoyed the secondary characters as well, however, we never got to find out what happened in the teeny added on subplot of what Kelsey and her friend's are researching. Perhaps that carries on through to book 3.

At times, I did find Kelsey to be very harsh with her mixed signals to Luke. I understand she's trying to figure herself out, but it was very hot and cold. A few times I thought to myself ..Poor Luke. On the plus side he is a nice and patient guy, which is just the match to help Kelsey learn to trust again, however long that will take.

Overall, I enjoyed the story and I would read another by her.

* I was given an ARC in exchange for an honest review *

The Blurb:

Kelsey McDade realizes that her love life is one and done. Her last—and only—relationship left her broken and afraid and more than ready to be alone for the long haul. But sexy-charming vineyard manager Luke Westcott pushes all of her buttons in the right way and makes her wonder if she ought to try again.

In nearly twenty-eight years, Luke’s most successful romance has been with the outdoors. Currently single, he’s happy to pour all of his energy into his new winery until Kelsey provokes feelings he didn’t know he was capable of. He can envision their future together—if she’ll let down her guard.

When the ghost of Kelsey’s past causes her to slam on the brakes, Luke is ready to fight for her, even if it means sacrificing himself in the process. Convinced she’s only made wrong choices in the past, Kelsey must decide if Luke—and their love—is worth the greatest risk of all.

Full Package by Lauren Blakely (Audio Edition)

Narrated by Sebastian York
♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ½ What a great friends to lovers story! Chase and Josie are wonderful together. Fun banter, great chemistry and I felt the sincerity between them that only happens between truly good friends. I love that he is a good guy who has a good heart.  Josie’s cookbook recipes were great - they cracked me up.

There were a few sigh worthy moments and a major one... that totally brought a huge grin to my face!  Sebastian York did a great job narrating.  This book was a win for me!

The Blurb:

The #1 New York Times Bestseller!

I’ve been told I have quite a gift.

Hey, I don’t just mean in my pants. I’ve got a big brain too, and a huge heart of gold. And I like to use all my gifts to the fullest, the package included. Life is smooth sailing....

Until I find myself stuck between a rock and a sexy roommate, which makes for one very hard…place.

Because scoring an apartment in this city is harder than finding true love. So even if I have to shack up with my buddy’s smoking hot and incredibly amazing little sister, a man’s got to do what a man’s got to do.

I can resist Josie. I’m disciplined, I’m focused, and I keep my hands to myself, even in the mere five-hundred square feet we share. Until the one night she insists on sliding under the covers with me. It’ll help her sleep after what happened that day, she says.

Spoiler—neither one of us sleeps.

Did I mention she’s also one of my best friends? That she’s brilliant, beautiful and a total firecracker? Guess that makes her the full package too.

What’s a man stuck in a hard place to do?

Narrated by Andi Arndt & Zachary Webber

♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ½ This was the perfect second chance story. Sweet, funny and sexy. I loved how Tyler, went all-in to win back Delaney, and I loved how she couldn't resist him. It was easy to listen to this story all in one go, as the narrators did a wonderful job!  It was exactly what I was looking for!

The Blurb:

An English Bride in Scotland by Lynsay Sands (Audio Edition)

Narrated by Mary Jane Wells
Series: Highlanders #1

♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ This story felt like one of the highland romances that I first fell in love with. It was easy to love the characters, and easy to hate the enemies. Add in some witty dialogue, humour and sweet chemistry and I say it's a win! If you're a fan of Julie Garwood’s highland romances, I think you would enjoy this book.

Mary Jane Wells did a wonderful job on narration as always!

The Blurb:

She never expected to marry....

Annabel was about to take the veil to become a nun, when her mother suddenly arrived at the abbey to take her home...so that she can marry the Scottish laird who is betrothed to her runaway sister! She knows nothing about being a wife, nothing about how to run a household, and definitely nothing about the marriage bed.

He never expected to fall in love....

From the moment Ross MacKay sets eyes on Annabel, he is taken with his shy, sweet bride...and the fact that she's blessed with lush curves only makes him utter his own prayers of thanks. Wattpad Version titled: Cell Phone Swap

♥ ♥ ♥ This book was pretty good, I do have to say it truly reminds me of being a teenager, and I am just glad I am not one anymore!! All those new emotions you don't understand yet, the feeling like whatever is happening, it is the only way things could ever be.. with no exceptions. Everything is a do or die kinda attitude..The author wrote that well.  However, I didn’t like that she ended it on a small cliffhanger, even if was dealing with a secondary character. I hate cliffhangers, and I found it unnecessary, I would have wanted to read their story without it.

* I read the wattpad arc version *

The Blurb:

It’s bad enough when high-school senior Keeley grabs the wrong phone while leaving her small town’s end-of-summer fair. It’s even worse when she discovers that the phone she now has belongs to the obnoxious, self-centered Talon and that he’s just left for football camp … with her phone. Reluctantly, the two agree to forward messages for a week. And as Keeley gets to know Talon, she starts to like him. Keeley learns there’s more to Talon than the egocentric jock most people see. There’s more to Keeley, too. Texting Talon, she can step out of the shadow of her popular twin brother. Texting Talon, she can be the person she’s always wanted to be.
Sparks fly when the two finally meet to exchange their phones. But while Keeley has been playing a part online, Talon has been keeping a secret. He has a different connection to Keeley — one that has nothing to do with phones, and one that will make their new relationship all but impossible. Knowing what she now knows, can Keeley trust him? And can love in the present erase mistakes of the past?

Just Like Heaven by Julia Quinn (Audio Edition)

Narrated by Rosalyn Landor
Series: Smythe-Smith Quartet #1

♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ I always enjoy Julia Quinn’s writing, she's witty, romantic and sweet. Marcus was a lovely hero, he cared deeply for Honoria. Honoria, was a strong woman who would go above and beyond for her family and people she cares about. I really enjoyed all the Smythe-Smith girls. This was a sweet romance with some fun secondary characters. Lady Danbury is always a favourite!

This was a re-read for me, though I chose the audio version this time and I enjoyed it just as much as I did the first. Rosalyn Landor is wonderful!

The Blurb:

Honoria Smythe-Smith is:
A) a really bad violinist
B) still miffed at being nicknamed "Bug" as a child
C) not in love with her older brother's best friend
D) all of the above

Marcus Holroyd is:
A) the Earl of Chatteris
B) regrettably prone to sprained ankles

D) all of the above

Together they:
A) eat quite a bit of chocolate cake
B) survive a deadly fever and the world's worst musical performance
C) fall quite desperately in love

It's Julia Quinn at her best, so you know the answer is ...
D) all of the above
